The Coaching Client
The client was a member of the senior management team who had decided to engage in coaching to support developing her leadership brand and impact. An area of development was in her emotional intelligence skills and inter-personal communications. Whilst the coaching client is a very valued and hard-working member of the Pegler senior management team, she recognised that her style of communication was not having the impact she needed with other senior stakeholders, especially in terms of influencing and relationship management. Through her own developmental awareness, the client wished to resolve these issues.
Coaching Approach
As emotional intelligence and interpersonal communications were the core developmental areas, emintell focussed on building awareness and understanding of the client’s preferred communication style and both its positive and negative impact. More detailed feedback on personal impact was sought and this more specific feedback helped the coaching client as she built new awareness of her style. She recognised that she needed to develop more flexibility in her communication styles to take account of the communication and learning preferences of other business stakeholders, with whom she had business relationships.
As well as using core coaching skills, emintell supported the client in trialling new and modified behavioural approaches in interpersonal communications and relationship management. The client showed high levels of commitment and through repeated practise, made impressive progress against her coaching objectives.
